Diversity in practice – Learning from our Investors in People Champions
Escrick Park Estate
Interview with Jane Whetsone
The organisation has a number of ways in which it promotes equality and diversity. The organisation is very supportive of learning and development with all staff treated equally and getting access to the same learning and development opportunities. Training needs analysis of staff are carried out on a yearly basis and then tailored to meet individual needs.
The organisation is also keen to promote flexible working and work-life balance is actively encouraged. There is leadership from the top and the Managing Director is very supportive.
The structure of the organisation is fairly flat and the workforce it quite mixed. The organisation does not have much of staff turnover, but when they do recruit they do so locally. Jobs tend to get advertised in the local press to ensure that people in the village where the organisation is based have access to the vacancies.
Team building is actively encouraged, in order to do so, social events are organised, and the team have recently made a trip to Prague. Testimony to the success of the organisation is the awards that they have won, for example the National training award and the David Bellamy Training award.
