Developing/retaining people

Overview

Across the economy skills needs are changing, so effective learning and development represent the best way to maintain productivity and competitiveness in a tight labour market.

Organisations working with the Investors in People Standard recognise the importance of planning and evaluating learning and development activity to ensure their people have the skills they need to be effective.

The Profile framework takes this further, asking you to consider how development can help the organisation achieve its vision, using innovative approaches to reflect individual needs and establishing a culture of continuous learning within the organisation.

Retaining talented people is a challenge for most organisations. Through demonstrating a passion for learning and development, employers can show not only that they reward people financially for their contribution, but that they also value their skills and potential. For some workers, this is actually more important and a key driver of morale and loyalty.
