How does it affect me?

The cost of getting it wrong can range from £5,000 to £50,000 per vacancy, depending on seniority and the potential disruption caused to the organisation. But recruiting someone who doesn’t share the values of the organisation, lacks the necessary essential competencies for the role, or receives a poor induction to the organisation can also lead to problems. For example leading to absenteeism, low morale, ineffective management and supervision, disciplinary problems, dismissals or possible unfair dismissal complaints, according to ACAS.
The evidence is mounting that recruiting a diverse workforce can deliver real business benefits. In a recent European Union study, 83% of employers reported that diversity policies had had a positive impact on their organisation. The top benefits they cited were having access to a wider labour pool, benefits to the organisation’s reputation, strengthened organisational values and increased innovation and creativity.
