Overview (cont.)

It is clear that when people and managers are involved in the process of developing and reviewing the organisation’s purpose and vision, they are more likely to share the principles that emerge and support the organisation’s strategy. They will apply them more naturally to their role and as part of a team, with the organisation’s customers and with stakeholders. So Profile looks at how the vision and purpose of the organisation have been developed, and the involvement that people and managers have had. Profile also explores how widely the vision and purpose are shared and practiced.

However, organisations obviously don’t operate in a vacuum. They increasingly need to consider the impact of their vision and strategy on employees and their families, the local community, the environment or other stakeholders. Taking these responsibilities seriously also benefits an organisation’s reputation with potential investors, regulators and potential new employees.

Profile explores how the organisation’s vision and purpose translates into wider concern for social responsibility, and tests how deep-rooted this concern is.
